The Elks Theatre was opened in October 1911 and originally had 700 seats.
The Elks Building, including The Elks Theatre was sold to the Middletown Industrial and Commercial Development Authority (MICDA) in 2014. In April 2015 the theatre closed for major renovations that were never completed.
After no movement by the MICDA to start and complete the final phase of the renovations, the Friends of The Elks has decided to purchase the theatre from the MICDA and move forward with those renovations and get the theatre back open, but MICDA would not sell to the Friends as the Friends did not sufficient funds to undertake the renovations. The theater is now is the process of being listed for sale on the open market.
