In celebration of our 48th anniversary, February 22, 2021, we have launched a mini anniversary campaign, whose proceeds will exclusively benefit two worthy and important landmarks of Harrisburg’s African-American Heritage:

  • The Midland Cemetery, Central PA’s oldest known African-American cemetery and interment site home to graves of former slaves, Civil War Veterans known as the United States Colored Troops and generations of community leaders.
  • The Commonwealth Monument, “A Gathering at the Crossroads,” in Irvis Equality Circle at the Capitol Complex, memorializing Harrisburg’s “Old Eighth Ward” and the hundreds of Black families who lived there, including some who were active in the Underground Railroad.
