Walking Tour: The Old 8th Ward, Jackson Square and Harrisburg’s African-American History
Historians Calobe Jackson, Jeb Stuart and David Morrison show and describe sites of Harrisburg’s 19th– and 20th-century African-American community largely displaced by the expanding Capitol Complex, with the exception of “Jackson Square,” now being restored by investors including native sons LeSean and LeRon McCoy. Also see the new “Commonwealth Monument” memorializing the 15th and 19th Amendments (voting rights for blacks and women, 150 and 100 years ago).
